Thursday Night with the Coroner

It's not CSI - it's how it is really done.
You've seen them on TV, and you've read about them in books, but have you ever spoken with a real corner? Here's your chance to speak with Douglas county Coroner Lora Thomas, Lead Investigator Chuck Brining, and Forensic Pathologist Dr. Patrick Allen abut what a coroner really does. Watch a 90 minute presentation with actual photos and help solve the case!

D.C. Sheriff’s Community Safety Volunteer Academy

Applications are now being accepted for March 13, 2012 - May 17, 2012 Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Community Safety Volunteer Academy

Join a group of dedicated individuals who have volunteered over 80,000 hours to citizens living and working in Douglas County since the program’s inception in 2006. The Community Safety Volunteer Program involves civilian volunteers who have an interest in law enforcement and assist the Sheriff’s Office by providing services to the community in those areas that do not require the attention of a sworn officer. Volunteers are required to attend a 10-week academy. Classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. and on four Saturdays at the Justice Center.

Children's Health Study

National Children's Study in Douglas County is led by the University of Colorado Denver’s Colorado School of Public Health in collaboration with the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The Colorado Study Center is proud to bring the National Children’s Study to Douglas County, Colorado.

The National Children’s Study is the largest long-term study of environmental and genetic influences on children’s health ever conducted in the United States. The study will include 100,000 children from across the county and will collect information about their health and where they live, learn and play, from before birth to age 21. The goal is to improve the health and well-being of all children for generations to come.  more
