Back in the late 1980s and early 90s, I worked in long range network planning for Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) and one of our main focuses was deciding how to provide broadband fiber optic networks to homes and businesses. We looked at FTTH (fiber to the home), FTTC (fiber to the curb or hubbed networks) and other arrangements. We looked at what types of services that such a network could provide such as VOD (video on demand), myriad internet services (wow... we didn't see things like Google Earth back then), etc.
I'm retired now and live in Highlands Ranch, CO, an absolutely great community and would love to see the technology that I sweated over so many years finally come to fruition.
- Richard Lemon

Highlands Ranch would be a great place to test your new high speed internet. I work from home, as do many people in this community, and the extra speed would be super. More importantly, the community is packed with computer savvy kids who are always on the computer. Whenever my grand kids come over they are on the computer. Even my two year old grand daughter wants to sit on my lap while I'm working on the computer.
- Bob Aucone

Highlands Ranch is a high-technology community and epitomizes the need for speed. Our community would be a great national showcase for Google’s new fiber initiative.
- Gregg Russo

It would be great to see higher speed access to allow for next generation computing capabilities:

  • 2-way video business and personal communications
  • Video broadcasting by HRCA and businesses, similar to Comcast channel for Douglas County
  • Various video channels for community and recreation and events
  • Greater speed to allow for next generation Internet based Cloud computing services
  • Higher speeds will be required  for 3D and virtual world applications to work well

As a technical professional, I am working on technologies for next generation computing that will require greater speeds and Internet access.  What we have today is minimal to what we can expect to see in the next 5-10 years.
- Dennis A Lancaster

I currently work from home a lot and I work for a website design firm. Our sites are all across the country and it takes massive speeds to upload and download files. I can be more productive!
-Gary Hatton

Google should pick my neighborhood for the fiber initiative because no other place other than Highlands Ranch (especially the neighborhood I live in) contains so many Nerds. Now I’m not talking your average garden variety Best Buy nerd, I’m talking the epitome of “Rain Man”. These guys don’t really have much of a personality, but if you want them to count bits and bytes or toothpicks on the floor, this is the place for you. Sincerely,
-Steve
