Masters Program

professionalswimmer.JPGThe Masters Swim Team is part of a larger national organization known as United States Masters Swimming (USMS) and at the State level, the Colorado Masters Swimming Association (COMSA). Ability levels include beginners to national champion swimmers and world-class triathletes.


The HRCA Master and Triathlete programs offer the highest level of coaching instruction in the area.  Programs provide opportunities for all levels of adult swimmers with structured workouts, stroke technique and positive approach to help participants achieve their goals.

Being a part of the Masters Swim Team is your opportunity to make friends with people who share your interest in swimming!


We have three different Masters group that cover all different levels of swimmers. THESE GROUPS START DECEMBER 1, 2011

Morning Masters (Ages 18+): Come join all levels of swimmers in a challenging morining workout. Must be able to swim all four competitive strokes and be able to complete an 1 1/2 hour practice.

M,W,F  5:30-7:00am at Northridge Rec Center

Morning Masters is coached by Jason Hubbard. Jason Hubbard is a Colorado Native, growing up in the Littleton/ Highlands Ranch area.  He is married to Erika Hubbard and has a 16 month old daughter named Elise.  Jason was a product of the high caliber training under both Matt Beck and Chuck Golz while swimming for USS team’s CRST, ACES, and HRA.  Jason swam for the University of Kansas and the University of Wyoming and came away with a degree in Kinesiology/Exercise science, pre-med, and health promotion.   He was an assistant coach with a YMCA swim league in Buffalo Wyoming, producing 2 YMCA championship swimmers.    Jason recently discharged from the Army after serving 4 years.  His leadership experience from Ranger school, Airborne, and Air Assault school transcend well into coaching.  As an Executive Officer for an infantry battalion and a basic training unit, Jason was responsible for teaching, training, and mentoring over 800 young men to fight for our country.  He learned a significant amount of leadership and compassion through these amazing young adults and found a passion in developing individuals to their full potential. That passion is exemplified with the opportunity to coach with HRCA. 

Mid-Day Masters (Ages 18+): Perfect for overall fitness for all swimming levels. You must be able to swima workout for one hour including interval sets. Endurance and stroke technique are emphasized.

Mid-Day masters is coached by Deb Slavec. In 1958 Deb started swimming on a swim team for Arizona Country Club.  She was five years old.  At the age of six she broke a state record swimming a 25 meter freestyle without taking a breath.  Born to sprint. she continued to compete until she graduated from highschool.  She swam only for enjoyment until her mid thirties and decided to try a couple triathlons. She got the swim bug back and joined South Suburban Masters and started competing in masters for SS for five years.  In 2002 She was hired by HRCA to teach swim lessons and in 2004 she began coaching for HRCA.  She also decided to swim for Highlands Ranch Masters. She has been coaching Drill Academy, Conditioning Camp, Masters, Trimasters, and Mountain High Summer League since. She still compete for Colorado Masters and has competed in three national meets. She has attended many swim clinics from world record holders to some great coaches which she thinks is really important to continue.

No-Sweat Masters Swimming (Ages 18+): This Masters practice is for all competitive levels looking to work on stroke technique and getting faster and more comfortable in the water. This is a great group for people looking to join an adult swimming group with no pressure. All swimmer in this group need to be able to complete a one hour practice and have a general understanding of competitive swimming.

No-Sweat  Masters Swimming is coached by Chad Lawrence.Chad Lawrence recently moved to Colorado from Indianapolis, Indiana. He is married to Kimberly Lawrence and the couple has two sons: Tyler (age 10) and Kyle (age 8). Chad began swimming competitively at nine years of age for Donner Swim Club/Columbus, Indiana. While there he held several Club records and earned two Age Group State Championship Titles for individual events. After entering High School, he earned a spot on the varsity swim team, and finished his IHSAA swimming career as an (8x) All-American, (2x) State Champion, (4x) County Champion, and held a top-three national ranking. Chad left the sport once in college to focus on academics. After completing his studies and receiving an Ordination, Chad returned to the sport as a Master Swimmer, earning two State Championship titles. He has since held numerous Club, Middle School, and High School coaching positions. Accomplishments include coaching several County/Sectional Champions and State qualifiers. Chad enjoys working with competitive and recreational swimmers alike but has found that working with Triathletes brings him the most enjoyment!
